چکیده
The paper presents the results of a comprehensive study on evaluation effectiveness retrofit strategy existing steel buildings against progressive collapse. In this respect, it investigates performance and design solution to increase robustness Moment Resisting Frame buildings. A truss system added at building's rooftop level (i.e., ‘roof-truss’), intended define an alternative load path, was investigated as solution. numerical model key components, including plastic hinges beam-column connections, were validated available experimental results. models then used structure under column loss scenarios by means non-linear static dynamic analyses performed in OpenSees. simulations allowed for identification possible failure modes paths together with definition Dynamic Increase Factor (DIF). regard, is shown that buckling critical selected case study. Moreover, outcomes showed how proposed allows effective when subjected informs details should be checked employing system.

PROGRESSIVE COLLAPSE ANALYSIS OF RCC STRUCTURES
The study aims to investigate the progressive collapse behaviour of RCC building under extreme loading events such as gas explosion in kitchen, terroristic attack, vehicular collisions and accidental overloads. The behavioural changes have been investigated and node displacements are computed when the building is subjected to sudden collapse of the load beari...
متن کاملSeismic Retrofit of Bridge Steel Truss Pier Anchorage Connections
In assessments of the seismic adequacy of existing steel bridges, the steel-to-concrete anchorage connections typically found at the base of steel truss piers can be potentially vulnerable, having little to no ductility and inadequate strength to resist seismic demands. Many other non-ductile failure locations may also exist along the seismic load path. Failure would result in unacceptable perf...
متن کاملEffect of Initial Local Failure Type on Steel Braced Frame Buildings against Progressive Collapse
In many studies, the alternative load path method (APM) has been used for progressive collapse analysis. In this method, one or several columns of the building are removed and the building response is investigated. This method ignores the initial local failure cause of building and this can affect the structural response. Investigation of ignoring the initial local failure cause of steel braced...
متن کاملProgressive Collapse of Structures
Local failure of one structural element may result in the failure of another structural element. Failure might thus progress throughout a major part or even all of the structure. After reviewing a couple of failure events, it is outlined why current probabilitybased design codes are inadequate to prevent progressive collapse. It is discussed how these shortcomings might be overcome both within ...
متن کاملSeismic Retrofit of Bridge Steel Truss Piers Using a Controlled Rocking Approach
This paper investigates a seismic retrofit technique that allows bridge steel truss piers to uplift and rock on their foundation. Displacement-based passive energy dissipation devices buckling-restrained braces, or BRBs are implemented at the uplifting location to control the rocking response while providing additional energy dissipation. The hysteretic behavior of the controlled rocking system...
